Land in Focus presents EXPERIMENTAL BALTIC CINEMA
- Event hosted by East End Film Festival on Monday 2 May 2011 @ VZ Gallery, London
Influenced by the Russian montage and their avant-garde approach to film language, the experimental scene in the Baltic countries has developed its own distinction marks since the time of the Soviet occupation in the 1940′s, using a wide range of formats and styles.
Since the early 1970’s, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian filmmakers have received great international recognition and acclaim using the most ground-breaking styles, winning awards in a large number of established film festivals focused on the experimental genre. In this showcase, we aim to provide our audience with an illuminating tour through the work of Baltic video-artists and experimental filmmakers that have been influenced by this national phenomenon, appealing especially to those with a particular interest in video art and an appreciation for distinct-told stories.
